UNIDIR’s official welcomes becoming operational of Bushehr plant

A senior official at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) welcomed Tuesday coming on stream of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in southern Iran.

Senior Researcher and Project Manager of the UNIDIR Yuri Yudin told IRNA in Geneva, Switzerland, that becoming operational of the power plant would not violate any of the UN resolutions and is legal.

Commenting on claims made by some Western states that Russia should not help launching the first Iranian nuclear power plant, Yudin said the Bushehr Power Plant was clearly excluded form the UN Security Council’s resolutions.

The researcher added although Moscow was under pressure by certain states to stop helping Tehran put the power plant into operation, the pressures had nothing to do with the existing UNSC’s resolutions and sanctions against Iran.

Fuel is to be injected to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant next Saturday.

The 1,000-MW power plant is considered by many scholars as a source of pride for both the Iranian nation and the World of Islam.
