Iran YOG basketball team suffers second defeat

SINGAPORE, Aug. 17 (MNA) -- Iran basketball 3-on-3 team suffered its second defeat in the Youth Olympic Games here on Tuesday.

Iran was beaten by Argentina 24-21 in Group B. The Persians had defeated Egypt in their opening but lost to Lithuania.

“The referees whistled in favor of Argentina in this game. FIBA officials must apologize to Iranians. We could have tied the match but the referees rejected our last three points without any reason,” Iran coach Ghasem Kiani said.

Iran is scheduled to face Panama on Wednesday.

A total of 16 basketball teams are participating in four groups in the event.

The 2010 Youth Olympic Games has brought together 3,600 athletes ages 14 to 18 from 204 countries competing in 26 sports.
