Poor start hits Gosman at Youth Oly swim

(AAP) -A disastrous start to the swim leg for Michael Gosman kept the 18-year-old out of medal contention in the men's triathlon at the Youth Olympics on Monday.

The Canberra student lost his swimming goggles at the start of the race, causing him
to stop twice in the first 50 metres, and resulted in him transitioning in 24th
position out of 32 competitors going into the cycle.
A solid cycle leg meant he was nineteenth entering the run and he battled back to
12th but it was left as a case of what could have been for Gosman.
The gold medal went to New Zealand's Aaron Barclay, who Gosman beat in the Oceania
qualifiers for the Youth Olympics earlier in the year, in 54 minutes 41.49 secs.
Rounding out the medals were Kevin McDowell of the USA, who took silver, with bronze
going to Austrian Alois Knabl.
In other Australian results wrestler Carissa Holland finished sixth in the women's
46kg freestyle category and the three-on-three women's basketballers made it two out
of two on Monday afternoon by beating France 21-15.
