RF delegation lays down wreath at Liberation monument in NKorea.
PYONGYANG, August 15 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian delegation, led by
Minister of Regional Development Viktor Basargin, laid down a wreath at
the Liberation monument in Moranbong Park in the North Korean capital on
Sunday to the tunes of a Korean military orchestra. The monument had been
built in honour of Soviet troops who fell in action for the liberation of
Korean people.
The ceremony was attended by Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Valery
Sukhinin, heads and staffers of diplomatic missions of Bulgaria, Poland,
Britain, Romania, Vietnam, India, Cambodia, Cuba, Sweden and other
countries as well as representatives of humanitarian organisations.
A guard of honour was lined up by the monument with the inscription:
"Eternal glory to the great Soviet Army, which liberated Korean people
from the yoke of Japanese militarists and which opened the way for Korean
people to freedom and independence!" The delegation also visited a
cemetery, where soldiers of the Soviet Army and Soviet citizens had been
buried.
The Russian minister arrived in Pyongyang to participate in
festivities on the occasion of the North Korean national holiday - the
65th anniversary of Korea's Liberation. Wreaths and flowers were laid down
at the monument of DPRK founder Kim Il-Sung as well as monuments to Korean
citizens, who had died in the war against Japanese invaders.
As chairman of the Russian part of the intergovernmental commission on
trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, Basargin will hold
talks with his Korean counterpart, Foreign Trade Minister Ri Ryong Nam.
"The main topics will be resumption of economic relations as well as
preparation for the fifth meeting of the intergovernmental commission," he
told Itar-Tass.
The sides will also discuss projects on the development of North
Korean infrastructure as well as trade, the minister noted. He also added
that there would be an exchange of opinions on the state of regional
cooperation, including the question of inviting labour from this country.
The minister will meet presidium chairman of the Supreme People's
Assembly (parliament) Kim Yong Nam.
