US drone strike kills 12 in Pakistan
Islamabad, Aug 15, IRNA -- A US drone struck a house in Pakistan's north Waziristan tribal region killing nearly 12 people and injuring seven others, local media reported.
TV channels reported that the drone aircraft fired missiles at the house of a local tribesman Shriadin near Mir Ali, a main town in the region.
Samaa TV reported that five foreigners were among those killed.
There was no official word on the attack at Aisuri village.
Local tribesmen said that pilotless aircraft had been flying over North Wazirristan before they fired missiles.
The US drones regularly carry out strikes in the Pakistani tribal region, which Washington considers as the base of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.
American officials say the militants plan attacks across the border on the US-led NATO forces and Afghan targets.
Pakistan publicly opposes the drone attacks but opposition parties allege that there is a secret understanding between Pakistan and the US over the strike. Pakistan denies any such agreement./end
