Iran ready to dispatch relief teams to Pakistan's flood-hit areas

Tehran, Aug 14, IRNA – Iran’s Red Crescent Society here on Saturday announced its readiness to dispatch medical and relief teams to Pakistan to help the country cope with devastating floods that have affected more than 14 million people.
Head of the IRCS’ relief organization Mahmoud Mozaffar told IRNA that the Islamic Republic of Iran has so far forwarded three relief packages to the flood-stricken regions in the neighboring Pakistan.
He added that the packages included 142 tons of various kinds of foodstuff, medicines and other necessary items for 70,000 people most affected by the recent floods.
Mozaffar said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been among the first countries sending relief supplies to the flood-stricken people in Pakistan.
The floods, triggered by torrential monsoon downpours, have swamped Pakistan’s Indus river basin, killing more than 1,600 people, forcing two million from their homes and disrupting the lives of about 14 million people or 8 percent of the population./end
