Buddhist community helps natural calamities victims abroad

HCM City (VNA) - Buddhist monks, nuns and followers have raised more than 35,000 USD to help earthquake victims in Sichuan province of China and Nargis typhoon victims in Myanmar .

On behalf of the Buddhist community in Vietnam , Most Venerable Thich Tu Nhon, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), presented a sum of 18,000 USD and 500 Chinese yuans to the Chinese General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City on July 23.

The same day, the VBS also gave another 17,000 USD to the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam .

Earlier, the VBS in coordination with the HCM City Food Company sent 100 tonnes of rice in emergency aid to Myanmar.-Enditem
