Two dead in another Melbourne shooting

Two people have been killed in a second shooting on a bloody day in Melbourne.
Hours after crime family boss Macchour Chaouk was shot to death at his home in
Melbourne's west just before 11.00am on Friday, two more people were gunned down in
busy Lygon St in Carlton.
Police confirmed two people died in the Lygon St shooting and one person is in custody.
Paramedics were called to Lygon Street, near Argyle Place at 4.45pm.
"Details are very, very sketchy," a police spokeswoman said.
One witness said shots were fired at or outside the Players on Lygon bar.
Chaouk, 65, was gunned down at his heavily secured Brooklyn home by a gunman who got
out of a car in a side street to shoot the 65-year-old in the chest.
He was killed amid a violent feud with the rival Haddara family.
The Chaouks have been involved in tit-for-tat violent incidents with the Haddaras
since Mohamed Haddar was shot to death in 2009.
Police said on Friday they would take all measures to ensure there were no reprisal
shootings following Chaouk's killing.
They said there was nothing to indicate the Carlton shooting was related to the
day's earlier incident.
One body is lying just inside the doorway at Players on Lygon.
The body is slumped at the top of three steps going into the bar.
Witnesses said there may have been up to eight shots fired, while others have
reported seeing a gunman running across the park in Argyle Place off Lygon St.
The other victim is on the footpath outside the pokies bar, underneath the roadside
umbrellas.
Police say the victims, both men, were in their 60s or 70s, while the man in custody
is believed to be in his 50s.
