ASHGABAT, August 12 (Itar-Tass) - A decision on inspection and
sweeping renovation of the fleet of airliners, locomotives and wagons as
well as sea vessels and motor transport was taken at a working government
meeting that took place on Wednesday, the national mass media reported.
On hearing reports on the state of the country's transport sector,
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov issued an order "to work out
a comprehensive programme for the development of civil aviation till 2030
with regular renovation of the fleet of aircraft thanks to purchases of
the most sophisticated aviation technology".
Turning to modernisation of rail transport, Berdymukhamedov ordered
writing off outdated locomotives, passenger and freight wagons as well as
"purchasing new ones instead of the old".
"The state has already channelled considerable funds for radical
renovation of the motor vehicle fleet," the president said, demanding that
executives of the industry should ensure, "apart from efficient operation
of new buses and taxis, their operating condition at the highest level".
Discussing the development of sea and river transport, the president
pointed to "accelerated competitive selection of a contractor under the
project of reconstruction and large-scale construction of the
international Turkmenbashi port on the Caspian Sea.
He also gave orders "to ensure the delivery to Turkmenistan by
December of another new tanker, designed to carry oil and oil products.
The tanker is being built at the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard in Russia. The
same Russian shipyard built two large-tonnage tankers for Turkmenistan
last year.
