Armenia sends Japan-made vehicles to extinguish N Novgorod fires.
MOSCOW, August 11 (Itar-Tass) -- Japan-made fire extinguishing
vehicles are used to fight fires in forests and at peat fields in Nizhny
Novgorod, a source at Japan's Embassy in Russia said.
"Following an agreement between Russia and Armenia to cooperate in
extinguishing fires in Russia, four big specialised vehicles, which had
been sent by Japan's government to Armenia over the current month, were
forwarded by Armenia's government to Russia," the source said.
"Every vehicle carries 10,000 litres of water," the embassy said.
"They were delivered by air to Nizhny Novgorod and are being used already
to extinguish wildfires and fires at peat fields there."
.Russia to remember victims of the Kursk submarine accident.
MOSCOW, August 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Russians will remember the sailors
who died ten years ago over the accident at the Kursk submarine. The
tragedy took 118 lives.
Mourning ceremonies will be organised at all fleets of Russia's Navy.
Flags will be at half-mast, there will be a minute of silence to remember
the crew of the nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine Kursk.
The North Fleet will organise a ceremony of "laying wreaths on the
water in the Barents Sea, and the Fleet commanders and relatives of the
victims are expected to take part," the fleet's press service said.
In Moscow, a ceremony will be organised at the Central Army Museum.
On August 12, 2000 at 11:28 local time (07:28 UTC), there was an
explosion while preparing to fire the torpedoes. The report to date is
that this was due to the failure and explosion of one of the Kursk's
hydrogen peroxide-fuelled torpedoes. The investigation commission stated
the exact time of the tragedy. The sailors died within the period between
several seconds to 6-8 hours following the explosion, and by the time the
submarine was spotted on August 13, it was impossible to rescue the 23
sailors who remained onboard.
.Tatarstan's president to visit Belarus.
MINSK, August 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Further development of economic
cooperation will be discussed over the visit of Tatarstan's president to
Belarus, the republic's Foreign Ministry said.
"The visit of Tatarstan's President Rustam Minnikhanov will be rather
quick," the ministerial press service said. "The programme of the visit
includes laying wreaths to the Victory Monument and a meeting with
Belarussian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorisky."
Sidorsky and Minnikhanov will visit the Minsk-Arena complex, the press
service added.
Tatarstan's president is expected to have a meeting with Belarus'
President Alexander Lukashenko.
Back in May 2010, Sidorsky visited Tatarstan. Over the talks, the
sides agreed to "bring the relations to a qualitatively new level after
the complicated crisis years." The sides agreed to develop cooperation in
machine building, petrochemistry and high technologies. They discussed
that TATNEFT would open 38 nuclear power plants in Belarus, and in future
their number will reach up to a hundred.
Besides, Belarus and Tatarstan signed an agreement on supplies of new
models of tractors to Tatarstan.
TATNEFT is one of the largest, internationally recognized Russian oil
companies, operating as a vertically integrated Group. The Company ranks
number six in Russia by the volume of oil production after Rosneft,
Lukoil, Surgutneftegaz, TNK-BP and Gazprom neft. The Company develops its
own facilities and exports oil, gas and petrochemical products.
.Russia's Commander-in-Chief of Fleet comes to Denmark.
COPENHAGEN, August 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's Commander-in-Chief of
the Baltic Fleet Vice-Admiral Viktor Chirkov comes on Thursday to Denmark
to take part in the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Royal
Danish Navy and in a meeting of Europe's council of commanders-in-chief.
This will be a non-formal meeting of NATO and EU commanders-in-chief,
where they discuss mutual understanding and cooperation. The council
meetings have been organised since 1990, while the council itself was
officially founded in Stockholm in 2007. The council has five working
groups which meet annually.
The Baltic Fleet's large landing ship Kaliningrad will take part in
the celebration ceremonies. The ship will host a cocktail reception on the
day.
Over the celebration, Russian navy will be able to visit local
museums, tour the channels and go to the famous Tivoli Gardens.
The Kaliningrad will invite guests and visitors on board over August
14-15.
.One policeman shot, two wounded in south-east Moscow.
MOSCOW, August 12 (Itar-Tass) -- One policeman was killed and two got
wounded in a fire exchange in south-eastern part of Moscow, the press
service of Russia's Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
The crime was committed very early Thursday morning.
"The scene is cordoned off," the source said.
Patrolling police had a conflict with several people.
"A fire exchange started, and a policeman was shot and his two
colleagues were wounded and taken to hospital," the source said.
One criminal was detained; his details are not published yet.
"The other criminal is wanted, all police are involved in the
operation," the press service said.
