World Bank president begins visit to Moldova
CHISINAU, August 11 (Itar-Tass) - The World Bank President Robert
Zoellick will meet Moldovan leadership on Wednesday to discuss measures to
support Moldova's economic growth and socially vulnerable groups of the
population.
During his talks with Prime Minister Vlad Filat, cabinet members and
representatives of civil society, Zoellick will also focus on the
consequences of the global financial crisis and its impact on the republic'
s economy, a source at the World Bank country office in Moldova told
journalists.
According to the IMF assessment, the Moldovan economy is slowly
recovering after a deep downturn caused by the global economic crisis.
Moldova's GDP is expected to grow by 2.5% this year. In 2009, the republic'
s GDP dwindled by 6.5 %.
On Tuesday, Zoellick visited Bulgaria where he met President Georgy
Pyrvanov and Prime Minister Boiko Borisov. The sides signed a memorandum
of cooperation for the development of Bulgaria's infrastructure.
