Renaming militia into police is aimed at making it efficient

RYAZAN, Central Russia, August 11 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Interior
Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev told journalists on Tuesday that the Federal
Road Safety Service (GIBDD) wouldn't be reorganized into a separate
division as a result of reform of the Russian law enforcement system.
"We face a strategic task of ensuring security on the country's roads.
That is why we are not planning to make GIBDD a separate structure,"
Nurgaliyev said.
Asked to comment on the idea of renaming the Russian militia back into
police, the interior minister said that the idea behind the reform was to
make law enforcement agencies more professional and efficient.
"What is police? It's a professional community of professionals," the
minister emphasized. He recalled that several CIS countries had already
renamed their militias into police.
