Body of drowned foreign tourist found on Phuket's Karon Beach

PHUKET, Aug 10 - The dead body of a foreigner believed to be a missing Bahraini tourist was found on a beach at Thailand's famous resort island of Phuket Tuesday with drowning determined as the cause of death.

Pol Lt-Col Boonlert Ornklang, police chief at Chalong police station, inspected the bloating corpse found on Phuket’s Karon Beach Tuesday morning and said that he believed it to be that of the Bahraini tourist who disappeared while swimming at Karon Beach two days ago.

The victim’s name has not yet been released by the authorities, who said the corpse will be kept until his family appears to confirm his identity and collect his remains.

Rescue teams have been searching for the missing Bahraini since his disappearance was reported on Sunday. The body was found 800 metres away from the scene of the accident.

As Phuket now faces strong two metre high waves, red flags warning of the danger have been placed at all beaches here to warn tourists of possible accident from swimming in the sea during turbulent weather.

Beach security workers have also been deployed to more closely ensure the security of the tourists in the area. (MCOT online news)
