RP 600 MILLION IN DUTCH AID FOR PMI PANGKALPINANG CHAPTER

Pangkalpinang,July 23 (ANTARA)- The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Pangkalpinang chapter, in Bangka Belitung (Babel) province received Rp600 million from the Dutch Red Cross in 2008 for implementing the Comunity Based First Aid (CBFA)program.

"CBFA is a community-based first-aid program , and we are also assisted by the PMI headquarters with Rp 600 million through Akzonobel company in association with the Dutch Red Cross," Head of the PMI Pangkalpinang office Wahyono said in Pangkalpinang on Wedmesday.

He said that the aid was provided on a two-year contract basis for the CBFA program.

"The money will be used to build more facilities for PMI like tents, public kitchens and vehicles, and also for humanitarian activities such as the construction of other infrastructure," he said.

The infrastructure, he added, include artesian wells, trash disposal places, and toilets," he said.

In the meantime, he added, the Pangkalpinang city administration in 2008 also provided Rp 200 miilion in assistance to the Pangkalpinang PMI office in the form of a grant.

PMI, he said, has various programs and humanitgarian duties, including overcoming the impact of disasters, healthcare, blood transfusion, and the development of the younger generation, like recruitment of volunteers.
