S.BATBOLD MEETS GOBI-ALTAI'S AUTHORITIES
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ Touring in the western region, the Premier held a meeting with the Gobi-Altai aimag's authorities.
The Prime Minister warned to the authorities that the winter preparation must be thoroughly ensured and ordered them to properly use pasture lands and protect livestock from parasites and diseases. He emphasized not only authorities, but also every family must ensure the preparation for the winter.
In the witer of 2009-2010, totalling 3,580 families, or 43 per cent of all families in Gobi-Altai, were affected by the zud disaster due to which 715 thousand heads of livestock perished and 764 families lost the livestock. To overcome the disaster in less damage, MNT 635 million was allotted from the state budget to the aimag, and MNT 577.2 million from domestic and foreign organizations and enterprisers were sent there as well.
The aimag's authority planned a two-stage campaign to provide its families with livestock. A related project is worked out and has been presented to domestic and foreign investors. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) decided to give assistance of MNT 230 million to families without the livestock, besides, 181 families of 10 soums received some 9,000 heads of livestock and 1,200 chickens.
The aimag received from 213 thousand heads of livestock some 100 thousand baby animals.
The Premier emphasized that the aimag has big opportunities to intensify its economic development by extracting brown coal, chromium, iron, magnesite, gold and oil and by building manufacturing industries based on these mineral resources. He added that the aimag's authority must be effective in developing the infrastructure, tourism and small- and middle-sized production, improving health, education and industrial services and in ensuring the development information.

Gobi-Altai aimag, 1,050 km far from Ulaanbaatar, has 18 soums and 83 bagas (smallest administrative unit in locality). The aimag's population is 55.4 thousand people in 15.5 thousand families. The land farming sector is developed moderately. According to the livestock census, the aimag has 2.1 million heads.
These days the province needs financial assistance and support in putting into use a paved road between Bayankhongor and Altai, to start permanent work of the Burgastai border checkpoint, renovate pipelines in the aimag's center, complete a building for the “Altai” ensemble. and to improve heat supply.
The Prime Minister underlined that the government wants to tackle these matters in frames of laws and in several stages. Then he ordered related Ministers and local authorities to introduce the government to these problems.
The Premier emphasized that the leaders of the state and the aimag must support each other in order succeed in their works. He gave the governmental certificate of Honor to N.Namjildorj, a herdsman from Chandmani soum, and presented a “UAZ-469” Russian-made jeep to Gobi-Altai aimag's administration.
