Japan supports 2 education projects in Yemen

SANA'A, Aug. 08 (Saba) - The Government
of Japan extended on Sunday grants amounting to USD 200,000 for the two education
projects
in Broom-Mayfa district and Tarim district in Hadramout governorate.
The projects are part of the scheme called "Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human
Security Projects", which aims at supporting small-scale community-based projects
in basic
human needs fields, such as primary health care, basic education and drinking water
supply in the developing countries.
Ambassador of Japan to Yemen Mitsunori Namba and the manager of Broom-Mayfa
District Education Office Musallem Barakt and the head of al-Graf School Ahmed
Salem signed the
contracts at the Embassy in Sana'a today.
The grant to Broom-Mayfa, 30 km east of al-Mukalla city, is for reconstructing a
new building for about 250 boys and girls. Boys are currently studying at another
school
away from their home and girls are forced to stay at home. Since the flood in 2008,
the building of al-Ta'wn School was seriously damaged, now is dangerously about to
collapse.
The other grant to Tarim in Wadi Hadramout is to build additional building for boys
students in al-Graf School. Due to the shortage of classrooms, numbers of students
are
now studying in a mosque and the school could not receive coming new students every
year.
The projects in both schools will provide healthy and safe environments for
students, and encourage larger number of students to come to the schools.
In the last Japanese fiscal year, Japan has funded 18 projects in Yemen under the
Grass-Roots scheme with a total amount of USD 1.5 million.
