Nationwide meeting on education reviews the implementation of four priority
(KPL) - A nation-wide meeting on education administration was held in Thakek district, Khammouan province.
The participants would be reviewing the implementation on the educational development plan for 2007-2008 and the implementation of four priority government projects on education.
This meeting was chaired by Professor Dr Somkot Mangnomek, Minister of Education, and attended by high ranking officials of the of ministry, the leaders of Khammoua province, Rector of the National University of Laos, Head of Education of the various provinces in Laos and education attaches from the embassies of Vietnam, China, and Thailand.
"The meeting is meaningful and important because it is being held at the time when the Fifth Ordinary Session of the National Assembly is in session," said Professor Dr Somkot Mangnomek, Minister of Education.
The Minister of Education also said the educational policy of the country is to give priority to the provision of national education to all and compulsory education up to the primary school level by 2015.
The ministry said it would provide teachers to poor districts, it would provide more education for the ethnic people and it would provide education that is meant for grass-root building in villages and village development clusters.
Such steps, the ministry said are meant to build the humanresources of the country.
A report on the evaluation of educational development in 2007-2008 was presented at this meeting.
During the five-day meeting, from 21 to 25 July, the participants would be submitting proposals for the plan on educational development for the years 2008-2009.
At the same time they would be reviewing the progress on two ongoing plans, the implementation of the national action plan on education and the education reform strategy plan.
Prime Minister Bouasone Bupphavanh who attended the meeting on 22 July has expressed congratulations and praised the achievements made by educational sector in the past one year.
He also asked all educational workers to pay more their attention and great efforts to develop and improve the educational system of the country in order to meet the new demand of the development.
He said the education is the main vehicle for the social-economic development of the country and all efforts should be concentrated for this sector, especially in the rural and remote areas of the country.
