Pakistan urges world community come forward for Afghan refugees repatriation
Islamabad, July 24 (PPI) - Speaker of Pakistan's parliament National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza says it was responsibility of world community to come forward for early repatriation of Afghan refugees to Afghanistan.
Talking to UNHCR representative in Pakistan Guenet Guebre-Christos on Wednesday, she said Pakistan was hosting millions of Afghan refugees since 1979 and this issue was of great concern for the country.
The creation of conducive atmosphere in Afghanistan for their repatriation was responsibility of international community. UNHCR budget for Afghan refugees dwindled with passage of time and now reduced. Donors also withdrew or reduced their support for refugees, Dr Mirza said.
Guebre-Christos briefed Speaker on their ongoing repatriation programme to Afghanistan. Pakistan has been gracious for hosting over six million refugees for quite a long time, evincing its hospitality beyond expectation.
She said UNHCR and world community sincerely appreciates and acknowledges Pakistan's hospitality. Pakistan really deserves support of world community to continue assistance to Afghan refugees. She assured to advocate for Pakistan to get international support for their repatriation.
