Pakistan's coalition government says national security, internal stability is paramount

Islamabad, July 24 PPI: The heads and top leaders of Pakistan's ruling four-party coalition government at meeting Wednesday chaired by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani noted that country's national security and internal stability was paramountand no one will be allowed to challenge writ of the state.

Information Minister Ms Sherry Rehman said after meeting which lasted over eight hours it was agreed in principle that in order to mobilize public support for greater national consensus on Pakistan's fight against extremism and militancy, theparliament will discuss formulation of a national policy to address the situation.

The meeting which discussed security related issues and prevailing political situation in the country, stressed need for greater cooperation between Federal andprovincial governments as well as strengthening law enforcing agencies.

OANA NEWS Rehman said coalition partners agreed to evolve long term policy across the boardwith support of all political partners.

The meeting attended by Peoples Party Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-N President Shahbaz Sharif, Jamiat Ulema-s-Islam Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman, Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali Khan, North West Frontier Province Governor Awais Ahmad Ghani and Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti, National Assembly (Parliament) members from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA bordering Afghanistan) and senior officials was also briefed by Army Chief, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani about law and order situation in FATA and measurestaken so far to bring peace in that tribal area.
