Roos too strong for depleted Dockers

North Melbourne are just half a game outside the AFL top eight after beating
Fremantle by 54 points on Saturday at Etihad Stadium.
The 19.9 (123) to 10.9 (69) win was the Kangaroos' biggest winning margin this
season and brought them within two points of eighth-placed Hawthorn, who lost
heavily to the Swans at the SCG.
By contrast, the injury-plagued Dockers have lost three of their last five, only
three weeks out from the finals.
Kangaroos captain Brent Harvey and fellow veteran Brady Rawlings led their side with
outstanding games.
Harvey had 34 disposals and kicked three goals in his 298th game and Rawlings was
brilliant, racking up a game-high 39 possessions while keeping Stephen Hill to just
seven.
North smashed the Dockers early and their first-term score of 7.2 was a club record
against Fremantle.
The Kangaroos were particularly effective across half-back in the opening quarter
and it was a big credit to the North defence that Fremantle had two more inside 50s,
but only managed one goal.
North twice led by 37 points either side of quarter-time.
It forced the Dockers to restructure and they played captain Matthew Pavlich further
up the ground in the second term.
Fremantle rallied well and kicked six goals to two in the second quarter to trail by
only 11 points at the main break.
The Dockers had kicked three goals and had the run midway through the second term
when Rhys Palmer made a disastrous kicking turnover in the middle of the ground,
gifting North a goal.
North extended their lead to 32 points, but the Dockers kicked the last three goals
of the half.
After exchanging goals early in the third term, North again broke clear.
Harvey kicked an outstanding goal from an acute angle halfway through the quarter to
break the lead out to 30 and the 'Roos were again away.
The Kangaroos extended their lead to 43 points at the last change and the final
quarter was a formality.
Pavlich had a quiet game and was on the bench several times in the second half,
while Dylan Roberton and Luke McPharlin were Fremantle's best.
