EC 11¿ mln fisheries sector national strategy project discussed

SANA'A, Aug. 04
(Saba) - Yemen and the European Commission (EC)discussed here on Wednesday the
EC-funded fisheries
projects including the 11¿ million national strategy for fisheries sector one.
At their meeting, Minister of Fisheries Wealth Mohammad Shamlan and the EC Chargé
d'Affaires Philippe Jacque reviewed the implementation level in preparing the
strategy
which its terms of reference have been approved by the cabinet.
The Minister affirmed the importance of accelerating the completion of the strategy
for its big importance in raising life conditions of fishermen and in providing
them
with the necessary services such as electricity, water, education and health.
He also praised the EC successful steps in implementing the components of fish
quality and fisheries information within the fisheries fifth project, affirming the
Ministry's
readiness to facilitate the EC tasks in Yemen.
The EC support in fisheries sector via allocating and funding a lot of vital
projects in order to finalize this sector's infrastructure was also hailed.
For his part, the EC official affirmed the significance of setting up the national
strategy for managing the fishery sector in order to complete the sector's
infrastructure.
He also confirmed the need to benefit from the donors support in carrying out
projects to contribute to developing this sector,referring that continuing propping
up fisheries
sector by donors is for establishing a modern fisheries strategy that enables it to
take the advantages of the international loans and grants in supporting the national
economy.
