Four-point earthquake shakes Japan's northern prefectures.
4/8 Tass 36
TOKYO, August 4 (Itar-Tass) - A four-point earthquake has shaken
Japan's northern prefectures Wednesday. There has been no word about
victims or damage. According to the national meteorological agency, there
is no tsunami threat.
The earth tremors were felt by residents in three prefectures in
Japan's north. The epicenter of the jolt was in the Pacific, not far from
the coast of Iwate Prefecture. The focus of the earthquake was at a depth
of 80 km beneath the ocean floor. The Japanese archipelago is situated at
the juncture of four tectonic plates. This is why up to 20 percent of the
Earth's all earthquakes measuring six points and more occur here every
year.
