Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for attack on Japanese tanker
Tehran, Aug 4, IRNA – The Al-Qaeda has accepted responsibility for attack on a Japanese tanker in the Strait of Hormuz last week.
Based on a report by Alarabia TV news network, the Al-Qaeda said it had placed one of its members by name of Ayyub al-Taishan as a suicide bomber on the tanker.
It said that the man blew himself up on the Japanese oil tanker, the M Star, on July 28 in the Strait of Hormuz which stretches between Iran and Oman.
16 Philippine and 15 Indian crew members were aboard the tanker which carried 270,00 tons of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to a port city in east of Tokyo, Japan./end
