Thai auto production expected to reach 1.65 million units
BANGKOK, Aug 3 - Thailand’s auto production this year is expected to reach 1.65 million vehicles, higher than the earlier targeted 1.4 million, according to vice chairman of Toyota's Thai business unit Ninnart Chaithirapinyo.
Domestic auto sales in the first half of this year grew 54 per cent, compared to the same period last year and domestic auto sales are forecast to soar to 750,000 units, he said.
Toyota has targeted domestic sales to surpass 330,000 vehicles including 60,000 passenger cars and 270,000 one-tonne pickup trucks.
Domestic sales and exports of autos and auto parts are expected to reach Bt190 billion, an increase of 28 per cent from last year.
He said Toyota’s eco car project is proceeding at full pace. Auto producers have monitored Japan’s relatively volatile Yen while the baht remains quite stable at 32 baht against US dollar.
Producers are also watching oil prices which have been rather stable in the first half of this year and the trend is expected to continue through the year end.
Several factors, favouring brisk auto sales, include the improving Thai economy and good agricultural incomes, which supported domestic one-tonne pick-up sales. (MCOT online news)
