Headline inflation likely to stay at 3-4% this year: Kasikorn
BANGKOK, Aug 3 –Thailand's headline inflation rate is likely to stay in the range of 3-4 per cent and the core inflation rate between 1 and 1.5 per cent in 2010, according to the Kasikorn Research Center.
Overall, the leading think tank said, inflationary pressure is projected to gradually increase at the end of this year and accelerate its rise early next year.
Key factors needing to be monitored include rising wages in the private sector and ending state measures to relieve the cost of living early next year.
Mounting inflationary pressure should play an important role in pressing the Bank of Thailand to raise the policy interest rate further since it adopted a strict monetary policy at the Monetary Policy Committee meeting in July.
KRC forecast the policy rate edging up to 2 per cent by the end of 2010 while the strict monetary measure must be implemented given risks from the global economic slowdown. (MCOT online news)
