Japan to help reclaim Anzali Lagoon

Rasht, Gilan Province, Aug 1, IRNA -- Japanese Ambassador to Tehran said that his country plans to participate in reclaiming the Anzali International Lagoon.
Akio Shirota, in a meeting with Gilan Governor General Ruhollah Qahramani Chabok on Saturday said that Japan shares excellent ties with Iran and wants to participate in reclaiming the Anzali Lagoon.
He praised the firm's decision of Iranian people and the officials of Gilan province to protect the Anzali Lagoon, adding that Gilan has many potentials and is strategically an important province.
“The province has difficulties for development and Japan can transfer its experience in economic development and the environment protection to it,” the envoy said.
Gilan governor general praised Japan’s contribution in reclaiming Anzali Lagoon and referred to that country’s help after an earthquake in the province 20 years ago.
“Although the government of Iran can do the job independently, the project is a good chance for attracting international participation,” said the governor.
Japan International Cooperation Agency has finished its comprehensive studies on Anzali Lagoon and the Agency’s representative, along with the Japanese ambassador met with Gilan governor general on Saturday and discussed with him the ways of implementing the results of the Agency’s studies./end
