Shaw extends lead in Tour of Gippsland

Ballarat cyclist Patrick Shaw is in the box seat at the Tour of Gippsland as he extended his overall lead on Saturday.

The Virgin Blue team member went into Saturday's two stages with a two-second
advantage and he improved that to 14 seconds ahead of the final stage of Sunday, a
street criterium in Paynesville.
Barring disaster, Shaw should win the Tour.
New Zealand teenager Alexander Ray won Saturday's morning stage, a criterium in
Bairnsdale.
Shaw then finished second behind Melbourne's Steele Van Hoff in the afternoon stage,
a testing road race from Bairnsdale to Lakes Entrance.
Joseph Lewis (Drapac) remains second overall and Cam Jennings (Team Budget
Forklifts) is third at 33 seconds.
Shaw was cautiously confident about securing the biggest win of his cycling career.
"When you have so many good riders in this race it makes it so much harder to win,"
Shaw said.
