MPs of Kyrgyzstan's Osh vote down OSCE police force introduction.

30/7 Tass 117

BISHKEK, July 30 (Itar-Tass) -- Lawmakers of Kyrgyzstan's second
largest city of Osh on Friday voted down possible introduction of an OSCE
police consultancy group, the AKI-press news agency reported.
"The resolution to the effect was adopted at a session of the city
council. The issue of rejecting a possible OSCE police mission was
initiated by Nazarali Aripov," AKI-press said.
The country's authorities decided to invite 52 OSCE policemen to
Kyrgyzstan's southern regions after mass unrest and ethnic violence that
hit these regions in June. The OSCE police mission is expected to offer
consultancy to local law enforcers and conduct professional enhancement
trainings.
"There is nothing bad that they (policemen) will help Jalal-Abad and
Osh colleagues," Kyrgyzstan's interim president Roza Otunbayeva was quoted
as saying.
In the mean time, the Kyrgyz authorities' decision to invite foreign
police force was met with indignation by a number of public organizations
in the republic. Two protest actions have already been staged in Bishkek
and Osh. Organizers of the actions said they might resort to more radical
measures if the government does not fulfil their demands.
