Dangerfield sticks with Crows

Adelaide have withstood the threat of losing young star Patrick Dangerfield to a
Victorian-based AFL club, signing him up for the next two seasons.
The strongly built midfielder-forward has been a shining light for the Crows this
season.
But the 20-year-old was believed to have been a target of several Victorian clubs.
Geelong was seen as a possible lure, given he was drafted from the area, and the
Cats could have room in their salary cap if they lose Gary Ablett to Gold Coast.
Dangerfield spent his first year on the Crows' list, in 2008, playing with the
Geelong Falcons under-18 side as he completed his schooling.
But like Port Adelaide's Travis Boak, another gun youngster from Geelong who
recently re-signed with the Power, Dangerfield decided to stay put.
"It's great to get this sorted out," Dangerfield told the Crows' website.
"It hasn't been the greatest season for the team but there's lots of potential in
this group.
"The footy club has been great to me since I was drafted and I think we are going to
be a force in the AFL for the next few years and challenge for finals."
Crows football operations general manager Phil Harper said Dangerfield, who has been
touted as a future captain, was integral to Adelaide's future.
"Patrick was keen to recommit to the club as he sees a bright future with the group
of talented young players at the Crows at the moment, so given those parameters it
was very easy to reach an agreement," Harper said.
Dangerfield was Adelaide's first pick, No.10 overall, in the 2007 national draft.
After getting his first taste of AFL football late in 2008, he played 21 games last
year, and has kicked 25 goals in 15 games so far this season, while averaging 15
disposals per match.
Meanwhile, St Kilda have confirmed the re-signings of 14 players, most of which had
already been made public.
Nick Dal Santo is tied up until the end of 2013, Lenny Hayes, Justin Koschitzke,
Jason Gram, Adam Schneider, James Gwilt, Leigh Montagna and Brendon Goddard until
2012 and Jason Blake and Steven Baker for 2011.
Youngsters Ben McEvoy, Rhys Stanley, Jack Steven and Alistair Smith have also signed
new deals.
