Inception enjoys dream opening weekend
Leonardo DiCaprio has had a dream opening weekend at the Australian box office.
His latest film Inception, about a highly skilled dream architect who delves into
people's subconscious, has taken $7.42 million since opening on Thursday.
The figures released by the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia on
Monday cover the period from Thursday, July 22 to Sunday, July 25.
Inception knocked Tom Cruise's Knight & Day into second spot, with weekend takings
of $1.75 million. The film, also starring Cameron Diaz, has taken a total of more
than $6.72 million in its first two weeks.
Toy Story 3, now in its fifth week in Australia, took $1.33 million to claim the
number three spot, and raising its total takings to $38.87 million.
Aussie crime drama Animal Kingdom, starring Ben Mendelsohn, Joel Edgerton and Guy
Pearce, kept its top 10 spot for another week, taking more than $114,000 in its
eighth weekend in Australian cinemas.
