BEIJING, July 26 (Itar-Tass) -- China's state group for the promotion
of the Chinese language abroad (Hanban) has opened in Beijing a summer
camp for Russian schoolchildren studying Chinese.
A total of 172 Russian schoolchildren and teachers will undergo a
two-week course. The cam has been organized as part of the program of the
Year of the Chinese Language in Russia.
Apart from Beijing, Russian students will visit Shanghai to make an
excursion over the Expo-2010 exhibition. The course's program includes
contests for the best knowledge of the Chinese language and calligraphic
skills. They are also scheduled to visit a Wu-shu school and take part in
a friendly basketball match with Chinese children.
"We hope such events will be held regularly," Guo Lifan, a Hanban
spokesman, told Itar-Tass. In his words, since 2006m Hanban has organized
similar camps to train some 3,000 students from 15 world nations,
including the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, Thailand,
Indonesia, South Korea, and Singapore.
