VLADIVOSTOK, July 22 (Itar-Tass) - The Mi-8 helicopter of the
Kamchatka Airlines has conducted a rescue operation on the Federal Schelde
motor ship (Hong Kong). He picked from the vessel that was on the route
from China to Canada an injured sailor and transported him to
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
According to the Vladivostok Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, the
captain of the Federal Schelde vessel contacted the Russian rescuers on
July 20. He said that an injured crewmember needed urgent medical aid. The
ocean transport was 175 miles southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Russian doctors gave recommendations for the provision of urgent aid to
the injured sailor and simultaneously a command was given to the motor
ship to sail to a point of the patient's transfer to which the Mi-8
helicopter could fly from Kamchatka and return.
The rescue operation was conducted on Wednesday, the injured sailor
was taken to hospital where he is undergoing treatment. After the sailor's
handover to the Russian rescuers the Hong Kong ship settled on its
previous course and is sailing to the Canadian port of Vancouver.
