MAJ GEN PUDYASTUNGKORO INTSALLED AS NEW JAKARTA MILY COMMANDER

Jakarta, July 22 (ANTARA) - The post of Jakarta regional military command chief was transferred from Maj Gen J Suryo Prabowo to Maj Gen Darpito Pudyastungkoro at a ceremony led by Army Chief of Staff Agustadi Sasongko Purnomo here on Tuesday.

Pudyastungkoro was previously commmander of the Diponegoro military command based in Semarang, Central Java. He was a graduate of the Military Academy in 1975. He started his career in the military as Platoon 3 commander of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad).

He later became vice commander of a cavalry tank squadron of the presidential security guards, deputy assistant for planning to the Jakarta regional military commander and filled other key posts.

Pudyastungkoro was once also commander of the cavalry educational center of the army, inspector general of the Wirabuana VII regional military command and chief of staff at the Jakarta regional military command.

Gen Agustadi in his speech called on the new Jakarta military commnder to maintain order and to improve coordination with all parties in order to safeguard security stability in Metropolitan Jakarta.

"Jakarta and its environs in West Java which are overseen by the Jakarta millitary commander constitute a barometer for the stability of natioal security," Gen Agustadi said.

Therefore, the new commander was expected to be able to improve coordination with all other security agencies in the region for the sake of stability, he said.
