Iran: West's overall support for Zionists, reason for continued crimes

New York, July 22, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Es’haq Ale-Habib said here Wednesday that the West's comprehensive support has encouraged the Zionists to continue committing crimes against the innocent Palestinians.

Addressing the UN Security Council, Ale-Habib reiterated, “The problem of the Middle East is not so much the lack of practical peace initiatives, as it is inappropriate and proper understanding of the root causes of the existing crisis and the continuation of the Zionist regime’s horrendous crimes, such as imposing intolerable hardships against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the rest of the occupied territories, which has led to the emergence of a great human catastrophe there.”

At the UNSC session convened to survey the Middle East issues and particularly aimed at establishment of an independent commission to survey the dimensions of the Zionist regime’s brutal and deadly invasion against the International Peace Flotilla carrying humanitarian aides for Gaza residents, the majority of envoys asked for putting an immediate end to the illogical and inhumane siege of Gaza.

Ale-Habib further reiterated, “The only way to end the Middle East crisis and particularly the Palestinians’ problems is to end the occupation of their lands and to recognize their absolute rights.”

He asked for continual support of the international community for the lingering siege people of Gaza.

In response to the representative of the Zionist regime at the UNSC, who had spoken of forwarding arms by the Lebanese Hezbollah for Hamas, and Iran’s nuclear threat for the region and the world peace, Ale-Habib said, “Such claims are entirely false and baseless, made by the representative of a regime that has a large number of nuclear warheads and its nuclear weapons pose a constant security threat against the regional and the international peace and stability.”

Regarding the Zionist regime’s excavations in and around Al-Aqsa Mosque (Dome of the Rock) aimed at destroying the Muslims’ holy sites, coupled with annulment of the Palestinians’ residence permits there, seizing their homes there and handing them to the Jews, he said that Israel is also busy constructing new houses in Holy Qods and destroying the farms of the Palestinians.

The envoy added, “Such moves are made aimed at changing the cultural and Islamic identity of the region.”

He referred to the Zionists’ last week invasion against the Palestinians’ farms in Al-Farsiyyah region and destroying a few agricultural complexes there, stressing, “Such moves are made in a bid to further expand of the Zionist townships and to change the demographic map of the sacred Beit ul-Muqaddas region.”

Reminding the audience of the Zionists’ crimes in Gaza and the need for ending the siege of Gaza, he said, “The world nations are waiting to see the results of the judiciary pursuing of the criminal acts reflected in Judge Richard Goldstone’s report and to see whether the Zionist officials would be summoned to courts of justice and found guilty for committing such horrendous crimes, or not.”

Ale-Habib meanwhile condemned Israeli’s numerous violations of Lebanon’s land, air and sea territorial integrity by refraining to retreat its forces from the occupied Lebanese Sheba Farms, Kafar Shuba hills and the northern parts of Al-Qajar Village, as well as Syria’s Golan heights, asking the international community to make urgent moves aimed at urging the usurper Zionist regime to fully end the occupation of those lands, as well as the entire other occupied lands immediately.

It is noticeable that regarding the establishment of an independent fact finding group regarding the International Peace Flotilla disaster, that the Zionist regime has kept on rejecting its establishment, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has promised to dispatch its members regardless of the Israel’s acceptance to the region in near future.

Meanwhile, the UN General Assembly is going to have a session aimed at pursuing the comments made in Judge Goldstone’s report regarding Israel’s war crimes in gaze within the next few days./end
