SIX DETAINEES ESCAPE FROM PATI PRISON IN CENTRAL JAVA
Semarang, July 22 (ANTARA) - Six detainees at the Pati correctional institute in Central Java escaped on Sunday night, head of Central Java's Legal and Human Rights office Bambang Winahyo said on Tuesday.
"I have received a report about the case in which one of the escaped detainee has been rearrested but I cannot give further information because I am in Malang, East Java, at the moment," Bambang said over the telephone.
Bambang said the detainees escaped after sawing off the bars of their cell's upper window.
"From Malang I will directly go to the scene because it is true that some of the detainees at the Pati correctional institute have fled," Bambang said.
The six were identified as Sutikno (28), Hartono (28, Khairul Niam (20), As'ad alias Suyanto (22), Aswin Mecu alias Imam (27), and Nur Cholis (27) who was rearrested by local people.
Bambang said Nur Cholis was arrested by locals when he tried to steal a motorcycle.
