All CSTO states against foreign troops in Kyrgyzstan - secretary.
20/7 Tass 241
YEREVAN, July 20 (Itar-Tass) - The secretary general of the Collective
Security Treaty Organisation said on Tuesday that giving up the idea to
send foreign troops in Kyrgyzstan "was an absolutely conscious and
consolidated decision of all CSTO states".
"The position of all CSTO states was the same, everybody believed it
would be inexpedient to bring in contingents of other states," he said.
"The introduction of foreign troops in Kyrgyzstan, no matter Russian,
Kazakh and Tajik troops or the troops or any other country, could have
triggered a further aggravation of the situation in the region on the
whole," Bordyuzha stressed.
He said the CSTO states considered rendering aid to Kyrgyzstan, as
they realized there were enough troops there "capable to cope with the
situation".
According to Bordyuzha, steps were made to expose the masterminds and
active participants of mass unrest, to strengthen border security and stop
drug trafficking.
He said the organization had worked out a set of measures and acted in
that direction.
