PRESIDENT ASKS MINISTERS TO ENSURE STABILITY IN ALL SECTORS
Jakarta, July 22 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked all cabinet minister to ensure stability in all sectors in the run up to next year's general election.
The president made the request when chairing a plenary cabinet meeting which was also attended by the heads of non-departmental state institutions at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday.
"During general elections the political temperature will usually rise, especially in relation with public security and order. Therefore we have to ensure social and economic stability," said the president in the company of Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
He said although the election campaign period has started, all state officials, from the president to district heads, should continue to focus on their respective tasks.
"We must make use of the remaining time wisely by getting our work done," the president said.
The plenary cabinet meeting was held to discuss security and political issues and to hear explanations from the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs and from the home affairs minister about the process of the legislative election and the campaigns.
At the meeting, explanations were also given by the acting coordinating minister for economic affairs about the 2009 budget and the draft of the government's 2008-2009 financial note which the president would present to the House of Representatives (DPR) plenary session on August 15, 2008.
