VP CALLS ON KNPI TO DEVELOP SECTORAL EXPERTISE

Jakarta, July 22 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla asked the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) in the days ahead to develop what he called "sectoral expertise" so that youths would not only respect someone's position but also his or her capability.

"I call on KNPI to develop a high degree of sectoral expertise," the vice president said at a function marking the opening of a KNPI Plenary Leaders Congress (MPP) here on Tuesday.

Kalla said it was time for the KNPI to respect someone's capability rather than his or her position.

He added in so doing the younger generation would be able to work anywhere they wanted and no longer needed to hastily plung into politics.

The vice president hoped the KNPI congress would not produce resolutions 50 percent of which encouraged the younger people to become legislative candidates.

Kalla said the KNPI in the future should be able to make the nation make progress in various fields of expertise.

"We don't want this nation to be known by its political radicalism, and violent rallies," Kalla said.

According to the vice president, a big and respected nation was one that had political and economic capability.

Therefore, he encouraged all members of KNPI to act and think positively in promoting the nation because the main objective of KNPI was to maintain national unity and integrity.
