French-Russian steel shot plant to be launched in Kurgan

TYUMEN, July 20 (Itar-Tass) -- The first stage of a new French-Russian
steel shot plant, Wheelabrator Allevard Kurgan, with the total capacity of
20,000 tons a year will be launched here on Tuesday, the plant's press
service reported.
According to the press service, when the second furnace is
commissioned the plant's capacity will be raised to 40,000 tons a year.
The launching ceremony will be attended by Russia's Minister of
Industry Viktor Khristenko, Minister of Regional Development Viktor
Basargin, Wheelabrator Allevard's Chairman and CEO Yves Barraquand and the
director for strategic projects.
The plant was commissioned in the test mode in April and produced its
first ton of steel shots in May.
The city of Kurgan was chosen by the French company for its convenient
location in the proximity to potential sales markets. Apart from it, the
city has a well-developed transport infrastructure, immense intellectual
and industrial potential, and promising development rates. Construction of
the plant began in 2006.
The new plant that has a completely automated production cycle will
employ 60 personnel. Experts say the quality of the Kurgan plant's
products will meet international standards. It will produce shots for
industrial use to clean metals and metal rolls. Russia has a vast metal
shots market, its annual consumption is some 40,000 to 50,000 tons. It
imports some 6,000 to 7,000 tons of high-quality shots.
