President Karzai receives Iran's fm

Kabul, July 20, IRNA – Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai here Monday evening received visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki who is in Kabul to take part at International Kabul Conference.

In the meeting Mottaki expressed hope that conference would lead to the Afghan nation and government’s taking control of their own affairs and the advancement and prosperity of Afghanistan.

Mottaki also emphasized on need for further expansion of bilateral relations and exchanged ideas on regional and international issues, particularly on topics of the Tuesday international gathering in Kabul, in the presence of 70 foreign ministers and representatives of international organizations.

Mottaki said that security and stability of Afghanistan is effective in regional peace and stability, expressing hope that the upcoming gathering would be a starting point for delivery of affairs to the Afghan nation in their own country.

He stressed the need for adopting a new comprehensive approach aimed at solving the Afghan crisis, inclusive of political, economic and security aspects, asking for taking advantage of both the regional and the international potentials in that framework.

Mottaki further reiterated, “Under such conditions taking advantage of economic potentials would evolutionize Afghanistan’s façade.”

Mottaki also reiterated that Iran is like always in the past ready for cooperation with the Afghan government and people, appreciating
President Karzai’s agreement with President’ Ahmadinejad on need for comprehensive regional cooperation.

Karzai, for his part, expressed delight over the presence of Mottaki at the conference, adding, “I have visited Iran on various occasions.”

Karzai welcomed Mottaki's proposals on adopting a regional approach aimed at solving the crisis in Afghanistan, reiterating, “Completing the rings of comprehensive cooperation is of extreme and vital importance for Afghanistan.”

Karzai emphasized that cooperation among Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan is particularly very important for Kabul, expressing hope that the three countries would always be side by side of one another in the future.

Mottaki, meanwhile, had meetings with his Afghan counterpart Zalmai Rasoul, Parliament Speaker Muhammad Yunis Qanooni, and a number of other political and Jihadi Afghan officials.

The UN sponsored Kabul International Conference will begin later Tuesday with lectures by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the visiting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Seventy ministers and representatives of international organization involved in contribution to reconstruction and humanitarian aides to Afghanistan and the Afghan nation are participating at the international gathering, sponsored by the United Nations./end
