Mottaki meets Afghan Parliament speaker

Kabul, July 20, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here Monday met and conferred with Afghan Parliament Speaker Yunis Qanooni.
In the meeting, both officials emphasized on the need for expansion of parliamentary relations between the two countries as support for good bilateral ties.
Mottaki conveyed the Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani’s warm regards for his Afghan counterpart to Qanooni, expressing hope that the International Kabul Conference would lead to transferring the affairs of Afghanistan to the Afghans, and in other words, to ‘Afghanize’ Afghanistan’s entire affairs.
He also expressed hope that the meeting would sow the seeds of wellbeing and prosperity for the Afghan nation.
Mottaki criticized the recent establishment of certain ties and relations between some foreign powers and extremist groups in Afghanistan, arguing that the move is the obvious sign for the full defeat of those powers’ policies during the past eight years.
He said that purely unilateral militarism, devoid of regional designs and initiatives are naturally ineffective, emphasizing, “Regional potentials need to be defined for the Afghan crisis.”
Emphasizing on the importance of regional convergence in confrontation with regional crises, and the moves made so far in that line, Mottaki reiterated that “the presence of Iranian forces at Kabul Conference is of high importance and minus Iran this conference would be incomplete.”
Afghanistan’s Parliament Speaker Yunis Qanooni, too, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation, added, “This would lead to boosting the self confidence of regional nations and the emergence of natural guarantee for establishment of balance of power both in Afghanistan and in the entire region.”
He reiterated, “In order to solve the problems and to contribute to that cause, the entire regional potentials should be facilitated.”
The Afghan official meanwhile emphasized that Iran’s policies and unlimited support for Afghanistan during the long past years is dully appreciated, adding, “Regional ties among Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan need to be boosted drastically in order to achieve meaningful regional cooperation.”
Qanooni said that the Iranian foreign minister’s visit of Kabul at the present time, keeping in mind the regional security challenges, and particularly the upcoming parliamentary elections in Afghanistan, coupled with the ongoing national reconciliation process in hi country is of great importance both for Afghanistan and for the region.
The Afghan parliament speaker rejecting unilateral policies, said, “The entire Afghan nation favor establishment of peace and security and putting an end to the lingering crises that can be achieved under the umbrella of national reconciliation within the framework of the constitution in their country.”
Mottaki arrived in Afghanistan’s capital city, Kabul on Wednesday and will take part at Kabul International Conference on Tuesday.
Seventy ministers and representatives of international organization involved in contribution to reconstruction and humanitarian aides to Afghanistan and the Afghan nation are participating at the international gathering, sponsored by the United Nations./end
