Ex-N. Korean Agent Arrives in Japan

Tokyo, July 20 (Jiji Press)--Former North Korean agent Kim Hyon Hui arrived in Japan early Tuesday to meet with families of Japanese citizens abducted by Pyongyang in the past.

During her stay through Friday, Kim is scheduled to meet with the
parents of Megumi Yokota, who was kidnapped to North Korea in 1977 at the
age of 13.
Kim is also set to meet with the family of Yaeko Taguchi, who was
abducted to the reclusive communist state in 1978 at the age of 22. Taguchi
is believed to have taught Kim Japanese.
Kim held a meeting with Shigeo Iizuka, an elder brother of Taguchi,
in Busan, South Korea, in March 2009.
Kim arrived at Tokyo's Haneda airport on a Japanese
government-chartered flight. She is also scheduled to hold talks with
Hiroshi Nakai, Japanese minister in charge of the abduction issue.
The Japanese government hopes that Kim will bring about new
information about abduction victims.
Kim was sentenced to death in South Korea in 1989 for the bombing
of a Korean Air flight in 1987, but was granted a special pardon later. She
now lives in South Korea.
Although she is prohibited from entering Japan under the
immigration control law, the Japanese government granted her special
permission to visit Japan upon request by families of abduction victims.
