Thai investor confidence index decreases moderately in 2nd quarter
BANGKOK, July 17 – Thai investor confidence index dropped moderately in the second quarter of this year by 6 per cent to 127 points from the 135 measured in the first quarter, according to an investor survey by ING (Thailand) Asset Management Co.
Tor Intavivat, ING executive vice president, said the survey of a random sample of 3,792 investors from 12 countries in Asia-Pacific showed the investor confidence index decreasing by 6 per cent to 135 points in the first quarter, but increasing to 115 per cent from 59 points in the fourth quarter of this year.
He said that Thai investor confidence would play an active role in overall economic recovery in the next quarter. It is expected the Thai economy, returns on investment, personal financial position, and household financial status would continue rising.
Mr Tor predicted that the European debt turmoil would have a little impact on Thai investor confidence. It is expected that 57 per cent of investors would benefit from their investment strategies.
The ING executive reemphasised that Thai investors had been immunised by past crises while their concerns over inflation and interest rates have mounted slightly. (MCOT online news)
