Mongolian president successfully completes 2-hr sub dive in Baikal
PORT TURKA, Republic of Buryatia, July 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Mongolian
President Tsakhia Elbegdorj has successfully completed his two-hour dive
in the Mir-1 submersible in Lake Baikal.
In the crew with the president were Mir pilot Anatoly Sagalevich, who
is head of the "Mirs on the Baikal" scientific expedition, and head of the
Metropol company group Mikhail Slipenchuk.
The company finances the "Mirs on the Baikal" expedition, which
concludes the work on the lake this year.
In the Mir-2 submersible, which also dived into the lake at the same
time, were Buryatian and Mongolian scientists. The submersions were
conducted during the fourth general session of the World Mongols'
Convention held in Buryatia these days.
The Metropolia barge was moving to the site where the Mirs were
expected to come to the surface.
The Mongolian president in one of the Mirs said in a contact session
from the depth with the ground that he admired the lake nature. Elbegdorj
will tell a news conference about his impressions in detail.
