Russia supports OSCE summit in Kazakhstan
ASTANA, July 15 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia supports Kazakhstan's initiative
to host the summit of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in
Europe /OSCE/ this autumn and urges European partners to follow suit, the
advisor of Russia's representation at the European Union, Olga Senina,
said over the round table in Brussels on Wednesday, the local media
reports.
The round table was called Kazakhstan's Chairing Role in the OSCE:
Results and New Perspectives.
The summit will favour more effective cooperation of the countries in
settlement of security issues in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasia space as
well as joint obligations for reaction of international and regional
organisations to challenges and threats, she said.
"Events of this kind may bring together leaders of key international
and regional organisation, which work in the territory from Vancouver to
Vladivostok," Senina said. "That is why we believe, that the matters
discussed over the summit should include not only the OSCE agenda, but
should dwell upon basic problems of our common security."
"I hope that the Russian initiative to have a new agreement on
European security will be discussed over this event," Kazinform agency
quoted her as saying.
Astana has all prerequisites for holding the OSCE summit at the
highest level, she added.
"Kazakhstan is the first country in Central Asia to chair the
Organisation," she continued. "I invite everybody to support Kazakhstan's
initiative of hosting this event."
