MINISTER SOFYAN: FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ANTARA SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY DISBURSED

Jakarta, July 21 (ANTARA) - State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil reaffirmed that the financial assistance to the state owned news agency of Antara should be immediately disbursed in a bid to prevent it from falling into liquidity crisis.

The Communication and Information Minister, the State Enterprises Minister and the House of Representatives had already approved the disbursement of the financial assistance taking form of the public service obligation (PSO) to Antara, Minister Sofyan said after attending a panel discussion and workshop on national committee for governance policy/KNKG here on Monday.

According to him, since the beginning the government has been committed to helping Antara. Hence, it is the time for all relevant agencies to provide the assistance.

"I am also monitoring it. At present, the Communication and Information Ministry has already approved the payment of the assistance to Antara. It is only a process of administration from the finance ministry," he said.

Antara news agency still played a crucial role in helping the country in disseminating information to the people including that on the results of public policies to all regions. "Therefore, we will not let LKBN Antara, which is young in age after a change of its status to Perum (state owned corporate), to suffer financial difficulty, because Antara has been assessed as having an important role."In the meantime, information from Antara said since a change of the company's state into Perum, the company's finance continued to undergo a deficit as the government has yet to provide the already approved PSO assistance as well as state equities.

The importance of the authorized capital is aimed at revitalizing strategic businesses of Antara.

"To obtain the government equity in the form of capital, a balance sheet is much needed. At present, Antara has just completed its preliminary balance sheet even the funds to work on it has yet to be paid, the sources said.
