Iran ranks 1st in electricity generation in region : Official

Tehran, July 14, IRNA – Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said that Iran ranks first in the region in terms of generating electricity and is ready to export electricity of 2,000 to 4,000 megawatts.
According to a report posted on the Energy Ministry’s website, he referred to a 38-percent increase in the output of the power plants across the country last year.
“Efforts are underway to raise the figure to 45 percent in the next five years,” he noted.
Electricity consumption shows an increase of 9.5 percent in the current Iranian year from 7.5 percent last year, Behzad said.
Some 18,000 megawatts of electricity was generated in the Fourth 5-Year Development Plan (March 2005-March 2010), he said, noting the figure will reach 25,500 megawatts in the Fifth Development Plan./end
