ELECTRICAL TARIFF HIKE WILL NOT APPLY TO ALL INDUSTRIES

Jakarta, July 21 (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said on Monday its planned electrical tariff hike will not apply to all industries.

The tariff hike will only apply to industries and businesses of group three and above, Al Hilal, chief of the company's board of commissioners, said.

"Their number is only around 8,000," he said.

To date, PLN has around 35 million subscribers, he said.

PLN is considering raising electrical tariffs for industries as part of efforts to deal with rising demand for electrical power, he said.

The electrical tariff will be applied to industries in the same way as non-subsidized tariff for households and businesses of 6,600 VA and above, he said.

PLN is expected to raise electrical tariff for industries to Rp1,300 per kWh from the current Rp600 per kWh.

The company will discuss the planned tariff hike with industries at the initiatives of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

The formula of the electrical tariff hike will refer to fuel oil and coal prices, Al Hilal said.

"The tariff will fluctuate depending on fuel oil and coal prices," he said.
