Confidence in interim government declines - Kyrgyz vice-premier

BISHKEK, July 13 (Itar-Tass) - The level of confidence in the interim
government has visibly declined of late, Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister
Omurbek Tekebayev said at a news conference on Tuesday.
On Monday Tekebayev tendered resignation, as he intends to take part
in the parliamentary election in autumn as leader of the Ata-Meken
socialist party. Although President Rosa Otunbayeva has not signed his
resignation as of yet, Tekebayev does not plan to take part in sessions of
the Cabinet of Ministers.
"At the present moment the popularity of the interim government has
dropped to 20-40 percent," he said. "We must state that we have lost
confidence of part of the voters, but there is a number of objective
reasons for that," Tekebayev said.
According to him, in the last days of the rule of ex-president
Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the rating was higher. The deputy prime minister is
confident that a multitude of ministers in the interim government has
played its negative role in the issue of trust. "There were 14 people in
the government, which means there were 14 centres of decision making," he
said.
Some other Cabinet members, who are leaders of political parties, have
earlier announced their intention to leave their posts. And this
circumstance will considerably weaken the positions of the government, the
deputy prime minister believes.
"The resignation of some renowned politicians will weaken the Cabinet
of Ministers, as its former members have a margin of people's trust
although it is not very big," Tekebayev believes.
"A new technical government will hardly be able to cope with political
tasks," he said. And the whole "burden of control" will lie with President
Rosa Otunbayeva, he said.
He also said that the resigned members of the interim government will
retain the legislative function, but they will use it only "if the
situation gets out of control".
