Aussies paying $10m to train Iraqi cops
Australian taxpayers have spent almost $10 million training Iraqi police officers,
new figures reveal.
Just 158 officers have been trained at a cost of $9.7 million, according government
answers to opposition questions from the last budget estimates hearings.
Potential officers are flown to Australia where they undergo intensive training in a
range of areas including forensics, advanced fingerprint examination and firearms
identification.
The project is funded until June 30 2011.
